Nichols- Leon Laverne Grainger, 80, died Tuesday, June 26, 2012 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Horry County, a son of the late Hobson and Rena Powell Grainger. Mr. Grainger retired as an Inspector for the South Carolina Public Service Commission and was a retired farmer. He was a member of Spring Branch Baptist Church. Mr. Grainger is survived by his wife of fifty-nine years, Virginia Hooks Grainger of the home; a sister, Willadean G. Grainger of Fair Bluff, N.C., and a special friend who was like a son, Maxie Dozier of Nichols. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m., Thursday, June 28, 2012 at Meares Funeral Home in Mullins. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, June 29, 2012 at Spring Branch Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery. Memorials may be made to Spring Branch Baptist Church, 6710 Church Loop, Nichols, S.C. 29581. A message of condolence for the family may be left at mearesfh.com. Meares Funeral Home of Mullins is assisting the family with arrangements.
