Mullins- Betty Gandy Hodges, 88, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 16, 2012, at Mullins Nursing Center. She was born in Florence County, a daughter of the late Vance and Margaret McTaggart Gandy. While her children were growing up she was very active in the First Baptist Church, serving as a Sunday School teacher in the Beginner Department, Sunbeam leader and Girls Auxiliary leader. She grew up in the First Presbyterian Church in Florence, and in her later years rejoined the Presbyterians at the Mullins Presbyterian Church where she was a member of the Women of the Church and Primetimers. She was very active with her children growing up, having served as a leader of their Brownie Scout Troop. Mrs. Hodges was predeceased by one brother, Vance Gandy, Jr. and seven sisters, Margaret Bass, Catherine Mann, Dorothy Robinson, Mary Wells Alderman, Alexine Hikes, Sue Vance Pitts, and Irma Correll. She is survived by one son, Charles P. “Bubba” (Carol) Hodges of Mullins; two daughters, Josie Hodges (Julian) Snipes, and Margaret Hodges (David) Hunter, all of Mullins; one sister-in-law, Betty Lee Gandy of Florence; eight grandchildren, Gandy (Ken) Britt, Betsy (John) Mazur, Daniel Drew, Gavin (Laney) Hodges, Ben Hodges, Meg Hunter, Casey Earnhardt, and Drew (Marsha) Hunter; and ten great-grandchildren, Keelie, Wyatt and Jeb Britt, Mary Wells, Wade and Reed Mazur, Hunter and Tag Earnhardt, Ian Hollen, and Jacob Hodges. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, February 19, 2012, at Mullins Presbyterian Church. There will be a family graveside service at Mount Hope Cemetery in Florence, S.C. following the funeral.
